Way back in the 1920s, Magic Chef gas ranges earned their name because they were the first stoves to offer a thermostatic control (heat regulator). Before that time, cooks had to just "burn and learn". Ouch!

The Magic Chef stove was initially manufactured by the American Stove Company, who believed in aggressive advertising. Not surprisingly, their strong advertising campaigns helped them win the "range wars" of the 50s. This little character played a big part in all that. Dressed in a tuxedo and a chef's hat, and holding a big wooden spoon like a magic wand, the Magic Chef became a familiar icon in the 50s and 60s.

Recently, Magic Chef merged with the Maytag Company. but the name and the little chef remain the same -- they're just pure magic!
